 | Horsepower rating, is it peak of continuous rating? The lower quality
treadmills almost always advertise peak horsepower which means very little in actual
usage. The power a motor can continuously deliver is what keeps the motor from self
destructing during use. You should have at least continuous 1 HP for walking and
continuous 1.5 HP for running. Commercial units should be at least 2 HP continuous. |
 | How much does the treadmill weigh? Treadmills under 175 pounds have a tendency to
break down if you really use them. |
 | Call the customer service or trouble number. If you can never get through or you
are put on hold for a long time it usually means that there are lots of problems with that
brand. We always return calls, email, faxes within 24 hours on business days. |
 | The running surface should be at least 17" wide, 48" long and 2 ply material.
Single ply tracks curl up on the edges and offer little cushioning. Beware of
treadmills that cushion by excessive motion as that can irritate the heels. |
 | Will the machine comfortably go fast enough for the fastest user? |
 | Is the machine warranted to hold up to the total hours of use per day? |
 | Is the track long enough for the stride length of the tallest user? |
 | Is the machine rated capacity sufficient for the heaviest user? |
